days 19-21 on whole 30

Friday breakfast
 Lunch
and dinner (that aidell's chicken sausage with spaghetti squash and pesto is a.ma.zing!)
 Saturday...best.breakfast.ever.
 Lunch
Dinner...didn't fill me up as much as I wanted it to. so instead of my usual fruit/nuts/etc for snack, I had more spaghetti squash with another chicken sausage.
Sunday Breakfast was okay... I missed my spaghetti squash!
 Lunch
Michelle's balsamic pork medallions with mushrooms(and the macaroni that my kids got... )
That, plus this was my dinner!
9 more days? It's crazy but as much as I miss rolls (especially when I am making them!) and cheese but... it's starting to fade. My desire for stuff that isn't "whole30". But it will be nice to loosen up a little bit, especially on the added sugars. I get that EVERYTHING has sugar in it, and so it's important to read labels and stick with things that are whole foods (pun intended) to reduce how much sugar you consume (because even if you aren't eating traditional "junk food" you are still getting a LOT of sugar in your diet!), and I can definitely see myself eating far less refined/processed foods in the future, but I'll be honest... I miss Jif peanut butter. And I will probably continue eating it after my whole30 is over, just not as much.

Moderation in all things. Also this flowchart I have on my fridge.
That's what I got out of this weekend.

update: its not them, its me.

I pulled little d aside tonight after a huge blowup and finally got to the heart of the matter... Why he has been rebutting my every request ever since he turned 6. And now it is really becoming a BIG problem.

"You're so mean. All the time. You're always mad about something."

Um.

He wasn't wrong.

So I explained to him that I am just frustrated all. the. time.

I have four kids to take care of 12 hours a day (sometimes more when I'm not lucky) and it is exhausting! I do everything I can to do fun things and keep everyone happy and fed and safe and alive... and that's a terrible excuse for not being a nice mom.

So I'm going to try harder to be a nice mom.

And I started by mowing the lawn and listening to conference talks, which was humbling and gave me a good list of things I need to work on to be a better mama...

Working on it.

A work in progress.

day 18. and whole30 is the only thing keeping me from diving headfirst into the graeter's sitting in my freezer

Truly. It is 7:30 and I can't bear to be a mommy a moment longer. Early bedtimes cannot come early enough. They have had their good moments but the last four hours have been.... well, not good.
Breakfast
Lunch, and then dinner was the same as lunch except with carrots and no berries.
I'm done and ready for tomorrow. Sometimes my kids are awesome. And on days like today when they can't stop crying and hurting each other... I realize that my decision to stop at 4 children was probably 3 children too late. #isDrewHomeYet #LongestWeekofMyLife #PandasTeething

The twinners at 15 months!

Have I really not updated about the boys in 3 months?? The whole logic of not thinking about how fast they are growing to make time go slower is totally not working in my favor. How are they so big?! We are only 3 months away from nursery!!! Woo hoo!!!

The boys had their doctor's appointment this week..
Lo is 21 lbs, 30 inches tall (taller and lighter)
Lan is 23 lbs, 29 inches tall (shorter and heftier)
The boys now share a room with their big brother, who wakes up with them around 7am, takes them out of their cribs and runs around with them until I am ready to peel my body off the bed. We change diapers, eat breakfast (cheerios, sometimes with fruit but always with milk!), then run around the main floor while dancing to Koo Koo Kangaroo (and I clean up after breakfast), we head to the gym and for the most part the boys happily find their favorite toys and go willingly to the babysitters at the gym. When I come to get them they greet me with wide open arms and big smiles, Lan happily getting into the Ergo and Lo happily walking himself out the door, excited to "wash hands" as he signs it (sanitizer). Speaking of signs, the boys can sign and grunt and point and for the most part I am able to figure out what they want which is wonderful and awesome to me. After the gym, the boys fall asleep for a few minutes on the ride home (If they didn't fall asleep on the way there), and then we come home and play for awhile till lunch. Repeat the mealtime routine (PB&J is a favorite, along with chicken nuggets, but always with fruit!) and then down for a few hours of naptime, but not before reading some books in the playroom. We go outside for much of the afternoon and then after dinner as well... it is a good thing the boys like their BOB because they spend a good amount of time in it! They are getting better on the stairs (turn around and go down on their tummies) and are getting much better at the local playgrounds around where we live and where we walk to. Bedtime (if they are lucky) almost always starts with a bath, running around the playroom naked, and more books and playtime. Their favorite part of the bedtime routine is brushing teeth! I have never seen two kids get more excited to see toothbrushes! They love their siblings, the trampoline, our slide, KooKooKangaroo, their binkies (and whatever binkies they don't have), soft plush toys they can snuggle with, any and all fruit I have ever introduced to them, fruit snacks, waterbottles (Sometimes more than milk!) and cookies (which they both sign for perfectly every time we walk into a grocery store!). They play and steal blankets from each other before falling asleep side by side every night... usually around 8pm-7am.

Lan is a BANSHEE. Man, can that boy shriek!! He is my most adventurous eater...if I am eating it he is willing to at least try it!! He is the BEST snuggler in the family. He can blow kisses but if you want a real kiss from him, expect it to be opened mouth! He responds to not just his own name but also to "Panda", recognizes pandas from Wild Kratts and does what I feel is the closest thing to Little A's "OH!" puppy face. He has the best dance moves, can shake his booty like nobody's business. Watching him squat is just about the best thing ever. Also he likes to open dirty diapers so you have to be careful leaving them around! He loves to be chased and squeals as he runs away. He likes to be "gentle" and then when you least expect it--BAM! HE blindsides you with a punch in the face. So unpredictable, it's terrifying. And always with a big grin on his face. His hobby lately is running directly into the street, laughing maniacally. We usually let him wear the one pair of sandals we own because he's constantly taking off his shoes and socks and it's the easiest thing to keep on him. I love his run with his belly sticking straight out, making him completely unbalanced and is probably the reason why he falls about every 5th step. But he is getting hair on top!!! Literally one of the most exciting things to me since he has the biggest head and it has been bald for so long... it's amazing to see how different and more boy-like he is starting to look! Like a little man. He loves his bink but doesn't need it all the time like Lo does, and can usually be happy with something else. He has two big teeth up top and two on bottom, and he's growing two more up top. He loves d's nerf guns and cars and trains and making sound effects for them, which he does so well. People ask how to tell the boys apart all the time, and there are just so many things about them...Lan's chubby toes and arms, Lo's long lean body, Lan's body almost morphs into mind when I carry him and I forget he's there... So much about this age is so so very wonderful and while we have our not so good moments, overall, I would take this age (before they start backtalking!) and bottle it up and keep it forever!!!

Lo is getting hair too!!! He is SO obsessed with books. Loves them! He says "buh" but in a slightly different way for ball, binky, book and berries (his favorite!). Lo loves to give hugs! He signs for diaper changes and likes to "help" me by bringing me diapers or wipes when I am changing his brother. He loves to pretend to clean or sweep or wipe down the counters! He is a little monkey, was the first of the twins to learn how to climb on the couch (and loves to sit there, sort of like a cat observing everything below him) and yesterday he climbed onto a kitchen chair and just sat there! Then tried to climb on the table! Crazy boy. He walks like he has done it his entire life, loves wearing shoes and putting on one shoe that he finds because he knows how silly it is. He likes to make people laugh. And steal things from his big brother, Lan. And for some reason, hit his sister in the back, especially when she's crying. We are working on that one. Can't live without his binky but chucks it away once he sees something else he wants (water or food usually). Has started throwing fits like nobody's business... screams and balls his hands into fists. Gets frustrated easily because (in my opinion) he thinks he's too smart for whatever it is I am trying to get him to do. He is SO smart. He understands everything, communicates so well, figures stuff out on his own and I swear he schemes sometimes (mostly to take stuff away from his older siblings). He has SO many teeth...all still small but they are there! Almost all the ones on the top including molars (once those came in he got waaay less fussy!) and about 4-6 on the bottom.

I love my babies!! I love that they are so similar and so different at the same time.
Now if only I could get them to stop doing this all. the. time. #twinlife #INeedMoreArms

whole30 day 17: Tiger blood at last! and the start of a mind-shift

My kids have been hating on me ever since I threw a huge fit about having too much junk in our house (and got rid of it!)...serious backlash. But after thinking it through I realized that I needed to approach this problem the same way I approached this whole30 project. I needed to focus on all the things I could have and how to make them seem extra awesome to me (ie convenient), so I did the same with the kids. Instead of continuing to be anti-snack, which I have been for the last few weeks since my kids have been snacking (on treats) and not eating the meals I make for them, I decided to jump on board the snack wagon. So thankfully it is fruit and veg season so their snack bin is full of all the good stuff, along with HB eggs (my kids eat them like candy with pink salt!), cheese sticks and gogurt. It's only been two days and they all love it.
speaking of loving it... these twinners of mine are obsessed with utensils! They even used spoons semi properly this morning for the first time...also the first time I have been brave enough to give them bowls of cereal (instead of putting the cereal right on the table).
They even helped me finish my breakfast! (day 17 meal 1)
Day 17 meal 2 (post workout snack)

day 17 meal 3 (lunch) was super delish. That costco pork is on point! which is good since I will be eating it for just about every meal for the next week!

day 17 meal 4 (dinner)... I read somewhere that having enough fat to keep you satiatied is pretty key to keep the snacking at bay so I opted for some guacamole to go with my pepper. Which, after years of cutting my peppers into slices, I finally realoized all I need to do is rip it open, pull out the seeds and eat it whole.
Today was a good food day. Even though I didn't find the whole 30 approved BBQ sauce I searched
And I do mean SEARCHED for. 3 stores, to be exact. Poor Panda pooped out on me after the first one, and managed to stay asleep in my arms, then in the car back in the carseat, then to another store and back. Solidly asleep. With his arms around my neck, which is the cutest thing ever. And shout out to Sarah and DK for watching the other 3 kids for me so I could run some errands!! And did I mention I made my kids my beloved german puffed pancake for dinner and didn't even miss it??? This must be the tiger's blood I've been hearing so much about! The energy is there, I don't need a nap, I feel wonderfully productive, I comfortably wore a belt for the first time since getting pregnant with the twins, and I just. feel, good. I know I am making good choices and it is becoming second nature to me to make them. Sure I still have dreams where I reach for the sleeve of crackers instead of a hard boiled egg or carrots, but dreams are silly like that.

Also.

The last few days I have noticed a bit of a mind-shift. When I thought back to how much I have changed since high school, I have changed a lot about my life....except for the way that I eat. Before I started this whole30, I ate all the junk I wanted to, and attempted to "balance it out" with exercising and eating a lot of healthy food. And it worked... until I became a mom. Then my metabolism was shot to pieces and there was not enough time in the day to work out all the junk I was eating. Then after the twins....well, my stomach is still recovering and I have a constant food baby that doesn't tolerate an entire box of Swiss Rolls like I used to. Which I was so devastating to me until I started this whole30. And I am starting to realize that life isn't all about eating all the junk food you want with no repercussions. It's about treating my body well, thinking about what I am putting into my body and certainly enjoying a life that includes treats and delicious things but doesn't revolve around them.

Boom.

Tiger blood.
